A note from Mr. Laxmi Prasad Dawadi on where Shining began, how far it has come, and where it’s headed next.

Dear guardians and well-wishers — it is my pleasure to update you on this institution. Shining exists today because of the effort of countless individuals and community members who believed in it long before it could prove itself.

From four kutcha rooms to a modern campus
Shining was established in Poush, 2051 B.S., with the goal of contributing to the nation’s development through quality education. In its very first year, the school ran from just four temporary rooms on a mustard field, with around 50 students and almost none of the infrastructure a school needs.
Piece by piece — drinking water, toilets, sports equipment, recreational materials — we built up what the school lacked, even as some in the community doubted whether those early, difficult conditions could ever be overcome. That doubt, as much as the encouragement, pushed us to keep moving rather than waste a single moment on the school’s development.
Guided by suggestions from parents and guardians who trusted us with their children anyway, and supported by their financial and material contributions, Shining slowly grew past its painful early years — through moments of joy and criticism, trust and doubt alike — into the institution it is today.
Building for the climate, and for quality
Taking parents’ suggestions seriously, we built two four-storey concrete buildings so students would no longer study through the harsh Baisakh–Jestha heat. Every room in these new buildings has eight windows and proper ventilation — built with the belief that better-designed classrooms lead to better learning.
Results, discipline and student voice
Every year, our S.L.C. results have ranked among the best in the district. Shining was also the first school in the district to introduce Computer Science as an S.L.C. subject, and has continued teaching it ever since. Alongside academics, we run a range of sports programs for well-rounded development, and give students a platform for their own writing through our literary special issue, Baal Awaaz (“children’s voice”). CCTV coverage across every classroom now supports discipline and steadily improving standards of study.
Committing to Class 12, and beyond
With the Government of Nepal’s requirement that no student can find employment without passing Class 12, we felt a responsibility not to leave our students without that qualification. From the 2067 B.S. academic session, Shining began teaching Grade 11 in the Management faculty — and looking ahead, we are committed to eventually running Bachelor’s-level programs as well.
Looking ahead
Our roadmap for the years to come:
- Bring Bachelor's-level study to Shining in the near future
- Further equip our library and science laboratory
- Run regular, specialised music classes
- Meaningfully expand outdoor and indoor games
- Specialise our existing audio-visual classes further
- Bring projector-assisted Information Technology into our compulsory Computer Science subject
- Move every student into our newly built, modern school building
- Strengthen a campus already built to the Ministry of Education and Sports' standards
- Add a flower garden and swimming pool to campus
